Screen recording tasks - User guide

Overview

Screen recording tasks are a new tool from VoxPopMe that let users record their screen whilst performing a set task. This will bring about valuable insight into how a user interacts with your website or prototype to enable you to build the best customer experience.

Screen recording tasks will sit alongside our traditional video response questions in set up and analysis.

Adding a screen recording task to your project

Adding a new screen recording task is simple, just simply choose "Screen recording" in the drop down when asked the question type in the Project Setup Wizard

Once selected you'll then be prompted to enter the task description and task URL.

Screen recording - Participant experience

There are two routes for a respondent to carry out a screen recording task

• Via our Mobile Influence app, where they will be directed to the task in the same way they are shown selfie style video questions. They will be shown the task and then directed to the task url to begin the recording. Once completed they will then be able to upload that recording to their response.

• Via a desktop browser, this will first ask the participant to check their camera and audio setings, then it will open up the task pane on the left and the task url on the right. The participant must choose to share the screen of the task pane. Once the task is finished they just click "Finish task". 
  • The desktop browser route doesn't require any browser extensions to be downloaded but does rely on the participants internet connection and successful connection with their camera and microphone.
  • In order for the task screen to appear alongside the task url the respondent must not open the survey on a full screen window. 

Please note: Mobile web browsers do not support screen sharing, to share a mobile screen studies need to be completed using our mobile influence community. 

Supported Browsers

Desktop screen recording tasks can be conducted on the following browsers:

• Google Chrome
• Mozilla Firefox
• Apple Safari (Version 12.1 or higher)
• Microsoft Edge (Version 80 or higher)

Analysis

Once the tasks are completed the recordings will appear in the Voxpopme platform alongside any other videos recorded as part of that project.

You can then analyse the outputs in the same way as you do currently with video responses.
